Cheray Smith

Cheray Smith is the Vice President of Corporate Tax.  In collaboration with the Executive Management team, she plans and directs all aspects of the organization's income tax policies and objectives.   In this position, she provides leadership to a team of tax professionals, third-party CPAs and Tax Attorneys located in the US and foreign countries. This team ensures income tax planning, income tax compliance, and tax audit resolution for federal, state, local, and foreign tax authorities.  This includes issues involving state and local sales tax, VAT tax, transfer pricing, personal property tax and corporate registrations/licensing.  In addition, Cheray works along with the Property Accounting, Fund Accounting, and Corporate Accounting teams to manage investor reporting and inquiries as it relates to income tax reporting.  Prior to joining Avanath, Cheray managed income tax reporting for various real estate portfolios at Pacific Dental Services.  She has also managed the tax reporting of LIHTC properties at Steadfast Companies.  Cheray’s studies include Business Economics at UC Santa Barbara.  She holds a BA in Administration from UC Riverside, and a MS in Taxation from Golden Gate University in San Francisco, California.
